Students enrolled in Diversity in the Classroom, Teaching and Cultural Diversity, Secondary Classroom Management, Clinical Experiences in Classroom Management, or Introduction to the Teaching Profession may find the links on the left helpful throughout the semester.

The following assignment is for TEP 507/508 Spring 1 '07. Complete the following assignments by Session 2, February 12, 2007:

1.  Read the syllabus thoroughly.

2.  Go to your local movie theatre and view the movie "Freedom Writers" (One less thing to do if you have already seen the movie since its release. If you have only read the book, go see the movie.)

3.  Complete the Classroom Management assignment described on pages 6 & 16 of the syllabus. If you are a Track A, student you will need to locate a fieldwork classroom to complete this assignment. Bring the printed pictures to class for session 2 on February 12th. (Remember: No pictures of students faces!)

4. View the following online video and be ready to discuss you impressions. Could you use this system as is in your classroom? What would you change if anything about the methods suggested? Were these ideas evident in the "Freedom Writers" classroom?

5.  Read chapter 9 of Becoming a Teacher and chapter 10 of the CLAD text. Be ready for a quiz connecting the movie to the readings on session 2.

6.  Bring the online purchase receipt indicating you have ordered Culturally Responsive Teaching by Geneva Gay.
