Since 1990, Azusa Pacific cross country has grown in stature and size, and has become a fixture in the weekly NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll. Consider this from the decade of the '90s. Azusa Pacific has won 5 Golden State Athletic crowns (4 men and 1 women), its first-ever conference titles, has been ranked in the NAIA Top 5, also firsts in both programs' history, and has had at least 1 team, if not both, competing at the NAIA championship meet every year since 1993. The Azusa Pacific men finished in the NAIA Top 10 4 of the past 6 years, posting a program-best fourth at the 1994 NAIAs.
Former Cougars John Gachao and Jaime Martinez, both NAIA All-Americans, have combined to capture the GSAC cross country individual title each of the past 4 years and are 2 of only a handful of runner ever to win back-to-back individual GSAC titles.
Former Cougar standout Jaime Guerpo is in his first year at the Cougar helm. Guerpo likes to carry a team of about 9 runners each in the men's and women's programs. The Cougars compete in approximately 5 regular season meets, including the prestigious Stanford Invitational each year.
