SCC NEEDS ONE INNING TO DISPOSE OF THE MASTER’S, 9-3

AZUSA, CALIF. -- Southern California College, despite being one-hit through 7 innings of play, exploded for 9 runs in the bottom of the 7th, to come from behind and beat The Master’s College, 9-3 in the NAIA Far West Sectional Baseball Playoffs in Azusa Friday night.

The Vanguards used 7 hits, including 6 singles, to account for all 9 runs, 5 of which were unearned. Right fielder Kevin Moore capped the comeback with a 2-out, grand slam to right-center. Mustang third baseman Luke Kollman threw away a potential double play ball at home plate that allowed Vanguards Eric Booth and Joe Rivera to score the go ahead runs and put SCC up 4-3.

With the win, Southern California College improves to 24-22 and advances to Saturday’s championship game against Azusa Pacific University at 11 a.m. The Vanguards must pull off a doubleheader sweep of the Cougars to advance to the NAIA West Regionals, May 8-12 in Caldwell, Ida. Azusa Pacific needs just one victory on Saturday to move on to the Regionals. The Master’s season ends at 34-10.
