Completing its 18th year as a club sport, the Azusa Pacific Club Men's Volleyball team continues its winning tradition.
In its 18 years of existence, the Cougar program has never had a losing season, and between 1994-1997, had its best stretch of success.
The 1994 team went 21-4, setting the first standard, but the 1997 team did them one better, setting a program record with 23 wins.
The 1997 Cougar team, arguably the finest team in school history, held a school-record 13-match winning streak, a streak that was snapped by 1993 NCAA Div. I Final Four member George Mason University (Virg.) in the CS San Bernardino Coyote Classic.
But the Azusa Pacific Men's Volleyball program is more than just wins and losses. The players that comprise the teams year in and year out, pride themselves on their single goal in playing volleyball: to honor Jesus Christ in all that they do.
Before games, the team meets for 20 minutes in devotions, worship and prayer, before heading out to the court to play. This tradition has been handed down from team to team.
Though the team is a club, it plays all of its home matches in the Cougardome, and plays a competitive schedule.
Each year, Azusa Pacific plays a 20-30 game schedule with 1-2 tournaments on the docket.
