 About Cougar Baseball

The winningest program in Golden State Athletic Conference history, Azusa Pacific baseball has become the staple of success in Southern California small college baseball. With 7 GSAC titles, 9 NAIA Far West Regional appearances and 3 trips to the NAIA World Series, few programs can match what Cougar baseball has accomplished.

In his 14th season, Cougar Coach Tony Barbone has maintained Azusa Pacific's reputation as a national player, winning 7 conference crowns and being ranked in the NAIA top 25 for 7 years. During the 1998 season, Barbone won his 400th career game. Entering this year, Cougar baseball had won 957 games against only 594 losses.

Azusa Pacific typically plays a 40-45 game schedule, including 30 conference games. Playing some of the top programs in the NAIA, Azusa Pacific also opposes several NCAA Div. II and III powers. Athletic scholarships help build the typical 25-man roster.

Located at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, Cougar Field is the scenic setting of Azusa Pacific's afternoon and evening baseball games. The Cougars play several of their home games under the lights, allowing a larger crowd of family, friends, alumni, faculty/staff and students to participate in the support of the team. Doubleheaders mark the schedule on weekends, with distinct starting times to coexist with the warm Southern California weather.
