Normal Curve Table

A table of normal curve equivalents may be found in most books on statistics. It shows the exact percentages between a score and the mean. Below is an exxample of such a table and how it is read.

In the first column is the equivalent of a z score. In the second column is the area between the mean and the score. The fisrt line of the table shows that a z score of .00 has no distance .0000 from the mean.

A z score of 1.00 would have and area of .3414 between the mean and the score.

Adding the area between
-1 (.3413) and
+1 (.3413) together shows        .6826    or 68% of the population would be tetween +1 and -1 standard deviations.

What would be the area between the mean   and 2 standard diviations, or a z score of 2?
